Billy Joe Gentry, 84, of Woodbine, passed away Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016 at Baptist Health Corbin.
He was the son of the late Cleve George and Rosie (Hembree) Gentry, born to them on May 17, 1932, in Corbin. He was a retired State Resort (Chef) and was also a retired brakeman for the railroad in Corbin. Bill played the piano for many years for Cedar Gap Baptist Church. He also helped with the start of the Church League baseball team in Woodbine. Bill loved Christmas, it was his favorite time of year. He also enjoyed working in the garden, mowing, and going to church. He loved the Lord, and was proud to be a Christian.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Carmella Dianna Gentry, two sisters, Mary Ruth Scalf and Colleen Cobb, two brothers, Doug Gentry and his twin brother, Bobby Ray Gentry.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Toni Louise Paul Gentry, four children, Rita Lynn Conn and husband Curt, Denny Gentry, and Kim Gentry and wife Mary Ann, all of Woodbine, and Nina Jo Broughton and husband Linville, of Barbourville, one grandson who he raised as his own, Shawn Gentry, of Los Angeles, CA., 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 at O'Neil-Lawson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Joseph Collins and the Rev. Michael Jackson officiating. Burial will following in the Browns Cemetery at Rockholds with Travis Gentry, Rusty Gentry, Braxton Lovett, Bryan Gentry, Bobby Lovett, Bobby Waldo, Johnny Brintley, and Ben Stewart serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016 at O'Neil-Lawson Funeral Home Chapel.
