Billy G. "Big Eye" Hughes, 84, of Bedford, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016.
Son of the late Eugene B. and Maggie Verdie (Hollowfield) Hughes, Billy was the owner and operator of Little Town & Country Restaurant, Inc. in Bedford. Billy was a United States Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Bedford Christian Church. He was in the Corbin High School Football Hall of Fame, on the Kentucky Board of Dentistry for 8 years as a Consumer Advocate, a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 158, Kosair Shrine & Scottish Rite, as well as a member and past president of Rotary.
Billy was preceded in death by a son, Gregory G. Hughes, and four brothers: Joe, Ben, Tommy and Elmer Hughes.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth (McDonald) Hughes, of Bedford; one daughter, Vicki (Hughes) Whitaker (Cecil), of Pendleton; one son, Joseph Hughes, of Bedford; one sister; Opal Wagers, of Corbin; and 9 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016 at Bedford Christian Church, officiated by Jeff Hughes of Cincinnati, Ohio and the Rev. Carl Rucker, of Campbellsburg. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016 at Pine Hill Cemetery in Corbin. Pallbearers will be Jason Whitaker, Gary Wagers, Joe Whitaker, Cecil Whitaker, Jerry Whitaker and Joe Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Maggie Hughes, Jill Whitaker and Bethanie Getlewski.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2016 at Bedford Christian Church (209 US-42, Bedford, KY 40006) and from 9 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.
