Charles's Story

Charles Edward Buhl Jr., 84, passed away on Friday morning, the 21st of July, at Jefferson Place. Born Jan. 20, 1933, in Williamsburg, he was the firstborn of Charles Edward Buhl and Allamae Renfro Buhl. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eleanor Speakes Buhl.
Charles was a man of faith and active in Broadway Baptist Church, a long-standing member of the Joe Stopher men's Bible class. He was a graduate of the University of Louisville, with a major in business. He was a member of the Louisville Board of Realtors, Certified Property Managers, and Senior Residential Appraisers. Beginning his real estate career in Louisville with the Harry Lewman Company, he later joined Allen & O'Hara as a property manager, where he served several years. In his latter career he served as vice-president of Vantage 7 Realtors.
In retirement he enjoyed his lifelong passion for travel with his wife. He was much loved by his family, of whom his survivors include his sister, Jo Florence Buhl Cordell (Otis) Fort Myers, Florida, his nephews Samuel Renfro Cordell (Glenna) Williamsburg, Joseph Edward Cordell (Yvonne) St. Louis, Missouri, his great-nieces Jamie Beth Caldwell (Andrew) Frankfort, Kelly Jo Young (Isaac) Corbin, Caroline Lynn Cordell, and Elizabeth Carter Cordell, both of St. Louis, Missouri. He is also survived by great-great nephews Jake and Jaron Taylor, Alston Richard Caldwell, and one great-great niece, Jasmine Young.
Charles's life was greatly enriched by his lifelong relationships with his cousins and relatives and the love and affection shared among them.
Eleanor would like to acknowledge and thank the staff and employees of Jefferson Place for their compassion and care during the final months of Charles' life and a special thanks to Dorothy and her staff who cared for Charles. Thanks to Peggy Perkins for her constant love, care and support during a lifetime of friendship.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Broadway Baptist Church, 4000 Brownsboro Road, with private burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane.
