Denver's Story

Denver Lake, beloved husband and father, passed away at his home on Thursday, June 15, 2017.
Denver was born Oct. 6, 1939 in the Goldens Creek Community to the late Reed Lake and Leona Mahan Lake. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin "Pete" Lake. He graduated from Poplar Creek High School in 1958. He joined the Army directly out of high school and served our country for four years in active duty. Denver married the love of his life, Wanda Joyce Faulkner Lake, on Sept. 30, 1961. Denver and Wanda have two wonderful children and daughter-in-law, Penney Denese Lake and Denver Scott Lake and wife Angelia. Three special granddaughters and grandson-in-law, Lauren Watkins Cloud and husband Justin, Victoria Watkins Gillespie, and Isabella Faith Lake, and three beautiful great-granddaughters, Adelyn Cloud, Allyson Cloud, and Olivia Gillespie. Denver was a devoted member of the Williamsburg Masonic Lodge 490. He was an active member and a deacon of Locust Grove Baptist Church, where he loved to engage with the congregation over jokes and laughter. He loved his family and friends dearly and never met a stranger.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. Monday, June 19 with Masonic Rites being conducted by the Williamsburg Masonic Lodge No. 490 at 7:30 p.m. at Ellison Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
Funeral services will be at Locust Grove Baptist Church on Highway 1809 in Goldens Creek, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Larry Carte and the Rev. Randy Douglas officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Faulkner-Mayne Cemetery.
