Georgia V. Rains, 88 of Corbin, died Saturday March 4, 2017, at La Grange Hospital in Illinois.
Georgia was raised in Harlan, in the Bardo coal mining camp area. She married in 1956 to James (Joby) L. Rains and moved to Indianapolis, Indiana for nine years and then moved to Bridgeview, Illinois where she and her husband raised three children. After retirement, she moved to Corbin for the last 21 years. She was a Sunday school teacher, volunteer, an avid reader, wife, mother and great friend to all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Harvey Seals and Nancy Elizabeth Seals; her brothers, Wilson Seals, Jesse Seals and William Seals; and her sisters, Mary Emma Hensley, Anna Mae Davenport and Minnie Bunch.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, James (Joby) L. Rains; her daughter, Virginia Cummings and husband David, of Oak Forest, Illinois; her two sons, James B. Rains and wife Karen, of Burbank, Illinois, and Lewis Q. Rains and wife Cindy, of Knoxville, Tennessee; her sister, Florence Seals, of Corbin; sister-in-law, Geneva Stephenson-Helton and husband William; grandchildren, Meleny Gunderson, Jamie Atiq, Christine Davies, Steven Cummings, Michelle Cummings, Gregory Cummings, Vanessa Melton, Taylon Rains and Alyssa Rains; and her great-grandchildren, Brittney Rains, Parys Rains and Bobby Davies
Funeral services will be held at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home of Corbin on Friday, March 10, 2017. Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m., with the funeral at 2 p.m. and burial following in Cumberland Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lily.
