Gloria Corbin Stancil, 71, passed away from this life into the next on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, after a long illness. She was afflicted with rheumatoid arthritis for much of her life.
She was born Dec. 10, 1946, in Takoma Park, Maryland. ?She was preceded in death by her parents, David Richard and Gloria James Corbin; and her brother, David R. Corbin, Jr. ?Gloria is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dr. John L. Stancil, Sr.; son, John "Jay" L. Stancil, Jr. and wife Genople of Corbin, Kentucky; daughter, Lara Brewer and husband Michael of Jackson, Georgia; grandchildren, Jayson and Haylee Stancil and Ethan Brewer; and sisters, Lois Stone of Phoenix, Arizona, and Mariam Douglas of West Palm Beach, Florida.?Gloria was a registered nurse who served as the Director of Student Health Services at Cumberland College in Williamsburg. She was a member of Legacy Christian Church of Lakeland. Gloria enjoyed traveling, reading and music.?In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to: The Renovation Fund at Legacy Christian Church of Lakeland, Options for Women Pregnancy Health Center in Lakeland or to The Arthritis National Research Foundation.?A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, Jan. 11, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Lakeland Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m., at Legacy Christian Church of Lakeland.
