Irene Martin Karr, 81, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, June 11, 2017. Irene will be remembered always for her generous, kind and fun-loving spirit, for her determined strength and independence, and her insurmountable tenderness for all living things.
Irene was a life-long member and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Corbin where she has been a staunch supporter and volunteer in the church food pantry. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, an artist and an avid gardener.
Irene, daughter of Roy C. Martin and Helen Ott Martin, was born on Sept. 9, 1935. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband's David Douglas Karr and Robert (Don) Karr, her infant daughter Karen Karr; by two brothers, Harold Ray "Smokey" Martin, and Don Martin.
Irene is survived by three sisters, Virginia Martin Hackler, Juanita Martin Cadle, and Linda Martin Taylor (Jack) as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, friends, neighbors and others who mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at the Corbin Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lisa R. Eye officiating. Burial will be in the Locust Grove Cemetery, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017at the O'Neil -Lawson Funeral Home.
