Monroe Roberts, age 79, of Corbin, passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, at Hill Crest Nursing Home in Corbin.
Monroe was born Feb. 27, 1937, in Big Pine, North Carolina, to the late Bob and Ruby Roberts. He served in the Army 1960-1964 and was active member of the American Legion in Michigan and Kentucky. He worked at Wayndotte Cement and Peerless Cement in Michigan and Journeyman at Millwright. He was also a member of the United Steelworkers of America.
He was preceded in death not only by his parents but by his sister Dianna Roberts and brother Henry Roberts.
He is survived by of his wife of 55 years Barbara Sevier Roberts, of Corbin, five children: Deborah Roberts, of Marshall, North Carolina, Gary Roberts and wife Terri, of Lincoln Park, Michigan, Reitha Wells at husband Bobby, of Corbin, Lisa Roberts, of Corbin, Jerry Roberts and wife Renea, of Lexington; three sisters, Alice Franklin, of Tennessee, Wanda Sutton, of Tennessee, and Nancy Johnson, of North Carolina; one brother, Gerald Roberts and wife Gail, of North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Terri Roberts; 13 grandchildren Jason, Wesley, Melissa, Mike, Tonya, Lyle, Rachel, Michelle, Debbie, Brittney, Josh, Delia, and Gabi; 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, family and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral service will be 8 pm Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the O'Neil-Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earl S. Tye officiating with burial being 11 am Friday, September 2, 2016 at the McHargue Cemetery in Lily with the American Legion Post 88 performing military honors.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm Thursday, at O'Neil-Lawson Funeral Home.
