Patsy R. Sears, 83, of Huber Heights, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 31,2017.
She was born April 22, 1934, in the coal town of Highsplint in Harlan, the daughter of Joseph Sargent and Geneva Hope Sargent.
Patsy was a true coal miner's daughter and stayed especially connected to her Appalachian heritage. She grew up in Keavy near Corbin, where she met the love of her life, Albert Sears Jr. and in 1951 they married in Liberty, Indiana near Chanute Air Force Base where their military lives began. After 20 years of traveling the countryside, and having three children, Patsy and family settled in Dayton, where she began working at General Motors. Patsy was very accomplished and never stayed idle. While working at G.M. during the 1970s, she enjoyed buying and selling houses, managed a small business, and owned a small corner grocery store called "Patsy's Carry Out." The corner store building still stands and is now an attractive structure in Dayton's Oregon District. After retiring, Patsy thoroughly enjoyed taking trips with friends, quilting, and spending time with family.
Patsy is survived by one brother, Jim Sargent, two daughters, Elaine Bryant and Linda Tyree; and three granddaughters, Leah (Chad) Rumbarger, Theresa (Christian) Gines, Georgia, and Tina Bryant. Patsy also leaves behind three great-grandchildren and many other cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Sears; husband, Albert; sister, Betty Mobley; brother, Jay Sargent, and son-in-law, Ivan Tyree.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. in the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home, Springfield, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at noon in the funeral home with Pastor Craig Grammer officiating. Burial will follow in Dayton National Cemetery.
