Thomas Gilbert

Thomas A. Gilbert Sr. passed away on Oct. 6, 2018, in his wonderful home of many years that he and his surviving wife Joan Gilbert, built 40 years ago. He was surrounded by family and friends in the last days of his life.
Born in Corbin March 7, 1931, Thomas served his country in the Air Force and was married with two surviving children, Sharon Epps of Tampa, Florida and Thomas Gilbert Jr. of Eaton Rapids, Michigan. Tom enjoyed life with family and friends, and working around the house that he built, listening to music, dancing, and just being at home with his very lovely encouraging wife. He loved country music and classical songs from the 40s and 50s. He enjoyed boating on lake Cumberland claiming it was God's country. Thomas and Joan worked hard to build their castle on five acres in Crawfordsville, Indiana and loved to have family and friends come to visit since there was plenty of room to enjoy with friends and family. He retired in 1990 as Vice President of Manufacturing at Ingress-Plastene, Crawfordsville, Indiana. He was a very blessed man who faced his fears honestly, held on to hope passionately, and sought others readily for help, reassurance, and love.
Survived by: wife Joan, Daughter Sharon, son Thomas Jr. (Beverly), grandson Aaron (Tamara), granddaughter Lindsay Parker (Stephen Parker), great-granddaughters, Josie and Evie, great-grandson, Henry Parker.
Services will be on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Avenue, Crawfordsville. Family and friends may gather, starting at 1 p.m. After the service, he will be laid to rest at the Oak Hill Mausoleum with military honors.
