Vernon V. Engle Sr., age 79, of Gray, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at Baptist Health Corbin.
Born in Knox County, he was a son of the late Will and Martha Haggard Engle. In addition he was preceded in death by three brothers: Gorman, Jack, and Delbert Engle, and six sisters: Allie Miller, Ruby Hasty, Evelyn Engle, Odell Engle, Emma Engle, and Pat Engle.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years Christine Elliott Engle; a son Vernon V. Engle Jr.; a sister-in-law Judy Owens and husband Don; a brother-in-law Johnnie Hatfield; and several nieces, nephews and other family members.
Vernon had been a factory sheet metal worker and welder in construction. He belonged to the Gray Baptist Church and the Henry Barnes Masonic Lodge at Dayton. He enjoyed time outdoors hunting and fishing.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home. Masonic rites will be conferred at 7 p.m. by the Cumberland Valley Lodge of Gray.
Vernon's funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Darrell Warren, the Rev. Dennis Engle, and the Rev. Jim Cook officiating.
Burial will be at the Gray Cemetery, with Dr. Tony Combs, Sam Combs, Mike Watkins, Clarence Brown, Ed Harris, Corky McKeehan, Rick Smith, and Jennings Vanover serving as pallbearers.
