William G. Cooper, 97, of Williamsburg, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016 at the Williamsburg Health and Rehabilitation Center in Williamsburg.
He was born Feb. 2, 1919 in Whitley County to the late Charlie Cooper and the late Sarah Nan Lawson Cooper.
William served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was an educator in Whitley County for over 44 years. He was a member of the Gatliff Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday school teacher and clerk. William was a lifetime member of the DAV Chapter 90, he was a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the Williamsburg Masonic Lodge No. 490.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Iva Cooper, a grandson, Jeremy Cooper, two brothers, Walter Cooper and Clyde Cooper, and one sister, Naomi Kerr.
He is survived by one daughter, Ruth Ann Potter, of Williamsburg, two sons, John Cooper (Vicki,) and Michael Cooper (Teresa), all of Williamsburg, six grandchildren, Leanna Cooper, Sarah Lawson, Rachel Fuston, Brian Lawson, Hollie Lawson and Emily Lawson, nine great-grandchildren, Colton Lawson, Abbigail Lawson, Emma Lawson, Katelyn Fuston, Skyla Fuston, Rayna Fuston, Darren Fuston, Alivia Cureton and Emily Cooper, two sisters, Eula Lawson, of Williamsburg and Argene Beasley, of Blanchester, Ohio, one brother, J.L. Cooper, of Williamsburg, special friends Rick and Eula Croley, and several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday Sept. 3, 2016 at Ellison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rick Croley officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in the Cooper Family Cemetery at Packard.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2016 at the Ellison Funeral Home Chapel.
