William M. (Bill) Smith, 81, of Williamsburg, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at his home with his loving wife by his side.
Bill was born June 26, 1935 at Savoy, Ky. to the late Fred and Edna Baird Smith. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 16 and retired in May 1972 after 21 years of distinguished military service. A decorated veteran, with two tours in the Vietnam War, Bill received numerous commendations for his exceptional military bearing, conduct, loyalty and devotion to duty. Bill would go on to apply these values to his post service life. Bill and his one and only Eva created many wonderful memories with valued friends as an automotive enthusiast. Bill was a gifted mechanic and had a passion for reviving vehicles, especially antique cars. It gave him much pleasure to revive a vehicle and pass it on for others to enjoy.
Most importantly, Bill was a lover of life and a reliable friend who will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty. Bill left his mark as a one of a kind who will be missed dearly by all who knew, loved and appreciated his unique spirit.
After retiring from the U.S. Army, Bill remained in the workforce for several years at Keller's, Kentucky State Garage, blacktopping, paving and coal mining.
Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Smith, and sister, Lewanna Brewer.
Bill is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 41 years, Eva J. Smith; sisters Patsy Moore, of Michigan, and Easter Anita Williams (Ed), of Florida; a brother, Ted Bruton (Jamae), of Georgia; brother-in-law, Chuck Brewer, of Texas; lifelong friend Warren Carter; several nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss him greatly.
