Amon Root, 73, of Corbin, passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville.
Born Nov. 1, 1943, he was the son of the late Archie and Alabam Root.
A 1963 graduate of Corbin High School, he was an all SEKC football player. His athletic efforts earned him a football scholarship to Trinidad Junior College in Colorado. For 17 years, he coached for the Optimist League and was named to the Corbin Football Hall of Fame in 1994. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.
In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Clyde and Melvin Root; two sisters: Mary Susan Fortney and Evelyn Burke; and by the mother of his children, Barbara Root.
He leaves behind four children: Carrie "Kaygee" Root Cassidy (Kelvin); Tracie Root-Maze (Daniel), David Root, and Jeff Root; eight grandchildren: Amara and Morgan Cassidy, Caleb and Casey Mitchell, Devan and Alizabeth Root, Haley Bennett, and Kenneth Amon Root; two great grandchildren: Avery Michael Wayne Ashers and Addison Raven Ashers; eight siblings: Clifton Root, Betty Root Webb, Lois Parr, Dan Root, Della Webb, Troy Root, Archie Root, Jr., and Brenda Colley; as well as other relatives and many friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Salem Cemetery.
