David Forest Unthank, born June 13, 1949, in Knox County to the late Earl and Francine Laws Unthank, went to be with the Lord on March 26, 2017, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. David graduated from Barbourville High School, served as a U.S. Marine in Vietnam and owned and operated Dependable Testing for many years. He was the epitome of a family man.
Surviving family members are his wife Judith Callebs Unthank of Corbin and three sons: Todd and wife, Emily, of Somerset, Erik and wife, Lora, of Mt. Olivet and Derik and wife, Angela, of Corbin. His adored grandchildren are Nathaniel Hays, Sarah Olivia, Mason Rhett, Andrew David, Rachel Lynn, Jacob Dalton and Lindsey Siler. Other close relatives are his cousins: Verna Mae Skinner of Birmingham, Alabama, Brenda Smith of Corbin and Jerry Smith of Greenville, South Carolina.
David was also loved by many extended family members: Charles and Vivian Resh of Manchester, Maryland; John and Carolyn Callebs of New Richmond, Ohio; Sheila Bryant of Corbin; Ray and Ann Moore of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; and Richard and Teri Callebs of Columbus, North Carolina as well as being "Uncle David" to many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Thursday, March 30 at 6 p.m. under the care of Joe Hopper. Pastors Kevin Roach of Calvary Baptist Church and Josh Smith of East Barbourville Baptist Church will officiate. Military funeral honors will follow.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday after 4 p.m. until the service time.
The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 96 Calvary Church Road, Corbin, KY 40701 in his memory.
