Gregory Himes Bargo, age 56, of Richmond, and formerly of Barbourville, passed away peacefully after his battle with cancer, Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, in Richmond. Greg was born on Aug. 28, 1960, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the son of Nancy Halstead Bargo and the late Himes Bargo.
Greg was a graduate of Knox Central High School, an EKU Alumni and member of the Lamda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Greg played and pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Montreal Expos. He graduated with a doctoral degree of highest honors summa cum laude from the Life Chiropractic College in Marietta, Georgia. He attended Green Acres Church of Christ in London. Greg was best known for his humble spirit and a laugh larger than life.
Greg is survived by his wife, Angela and their sons, Greg Jr. and Casey. His mother, Nancy, sister, Kathy and husband, Buck Hodges, nephew, Brody, nieces, Nancy Anne and husband, Tyler Lewis; Kensey Woods, great niece and nephew, Espn and Indie; brother Kenny Wiliamson and many beloved aunts and uncles.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Himes, a brother, Rickey and a grandson, Kingston.
Funeral services for Gregory Himes Bargo will be conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, Monday, Oct. 3, 2016 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Duke Hammons and the Rev. Phillip Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Bargo Family Cemetery at Jarvis, with Dr. James Miller, John Gambrel, Gary Bain, John Logan, Gerald Lewis, Thaddeus Lewis, Bobby McWilliams, Chuck Mosley, and Frank McKinney serving as pallbearers.
Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home Monday after 1 p.m. until the funeral hour at 3 p.m. Hopper Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
