Hershel Coy Barton, 82, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017, at Norton Hospital in Louisville.
He attended Freedom of Worship Church, was a U.S. Marine Veteran of the Vietnam War, was a retired employee of CSX Railroad, was a Kentucky Colonel and was the receipt for several awards for his military service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Sue Brown Barton; his father, Matt Barton; and his mother, Etta Derrick.
Surviving are a son, James C. Barton and wife Jennifer of Salem, Indiana; daughter, Sharon Amber of Corbin; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Bobby Derrick of Indiana; two sisters, Frankie Sasser and husband Glen of Corbin, and Lois Underwood and husband Buddy of Sarasota, Florida; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Hershel Coy Barton will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, Virginia with Pastor Robert Fultz officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.
