Leroy A. Gilbert, 78, of Whitley County, passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017 at his home.
He was the son of the late Millard and Myrtle (Taylor) Gilbert, born to them Sept. 19, 1939 in Corbin.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Edith Angelo, Verla Blevins, Cora Jones, Doris Gilbert, Gleta Gilbert and Pat Maloney; and two brothers, Dewey Gilbert and Curt Gilbert.
Leroy was a 1958 graduate of Lynn Camp High School and attended Sue Bennett and Cumberland College. He retired from Ironworker's Local 25 Detroit, Michigan and proudly served as Whitley County Judge-Executive from 1993-1998, and was a life-long member of East Corbin Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ann (Tankersley) Gilbert, of Corbin; his daughter, Lisa Hopkins, of Corbin; two sons, Leroy (Tammy) Gilbert and Steve (Ward) Gilbert, of Corbin; brother, Gene (Mary Ann) Gilbert, of Corbin; sister, Peggy Childress, of Louisville; 8 grandchildren, Katie Hopkins, Erin Hopkins, John Gilbert, Sam Gilbert, Sarah Gilbert, Joshua Gilbert, Jeremiah Gilbert and Suzy Gilbert; and one great-grandchild, Evie Hopkins, all of Corbin. He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017 at O'Neil-Lawson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at O'Neil-Lawson Funeral Home Chapel.
O'Neil-Lawson Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
