Mary Jo's Story
Mary Jo Alford, age 77, of Corbin, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017, at her home in Corbin.
She was born Feb. 12, 1940, in Bell County to the late Willie Lee and Eula Mae (Ballard) McDaries.
Mary Jo worked for American Greetings for many years, and was a member of the WMU at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by one sister Helen Ruth Wilson.
She is survived by her husband Orville "Pete" Alford of Corbin, two children Audie Alford and wife Frances and Rhonda Nichols and husband Stuart both of Lexington. Four sisters Minnie Sue Stamper and husband William, Willie Lee McDaries II and wife Franis both of Trosper, Maggie Marsee of Keavy, Jane McDaries and Judy Douglas and husband Marty both of Corbin. Five grandchildren, Miranda Alford, Shane Alford, Matt Broughton, Drake Nichols, and Kaylan Nichols all of Lexington, one great-grandchild, Conner Alford of Corbin, plus several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at the O'Neil-Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doyle Lester officiating. Burial will be in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Lily, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, at the O'Neil -Lawson Funeral Home.
