Ralph's Story

Text size

Ralph 'Scott' Allen, former US Marine and retired CSX conductor, died suddenly on April 4, 2017 at the age of 64, while peacefully sleeping in his home in Mindanao, Philippines.
Scott is survived by his wife; Eva Pinili Allen; his three children, Scotty Ray and Jessica Allen, Risha and Chris Mullins, and Heidi Hillard; two stepsons Patrick and Richard Pinili; six grandchildren Christopher, Clay and Carmen Mullins, Josh Felts, Keegan Allen and Hudson Hillard; mother of his children and lifelong friend Sherry Allen Storms; sister Julie May Allen; niece Lara Griffin; nephews Chris Ledington and JR Allen; and sister in law Briggsy Allen. He is preceded in death by his father; Herman Ray Allen Sr (1977); mother Edna Williams Allen (1999); and brother Herman Ray Allen Jr (2016).
Scott was born in Loyall, KY on Oct 15, 1952 and graduated from Corbin High School in 1970. Like so many of his family members before him, he was eager to become a US Marine and serve his country, albeit briefly. He met Sherry in 1978 and was promptly married to his best friend for more than a decade. Excited to start a family, his three children would soon become his greatest accomplishments in life. Scott was an avid golfer and enjoyed all things outdoors. Hiking and backpacking around Cumberland Falls, skydiving, and travelling are what he did best. Scott never took life too seriously, spontaneity was key. He was a Christian, recently reborn and rededicated, our last few emails told of a mission trip he and Eva planned to make to Vietnam later in the year. The last 14 years of his life have been spent ocean - front in The Philippines, happily remarried with a life Jimmy Buffet would have been proud of.
Scott has been, and will always be sorely missed by all who knew him. Good or bad, Scott left an impression that would eventually leave you with a smile. As his ashes are e route to the US, the family is holding a Memorial Service on Monday, April 10 2017 at 5pm at the RestHaven Cemetery in Loyall where his life and legacy will be celebrated.
