Rev. Albert Marion Archer Obituary

Rev. Albert M. Archer, 88, formerly of Corbin, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona. Born on January 3, 1937, he lived a life devoted to faith, service, and family.

Albert pursued his education at Willard School in Laurel County, Kentucky; Lily High School in Lily, Kentucky; Skagit Valley College, Mount Vernon, Washington; Western Washington State College, Bellingham. Washington; Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky; and Seattle University, Seattle, Washington. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959.

A man of deep faith and compassion, Albert dedicated over three decades to Lighthouse Mission Ministries in Bellingham, Washington, serving as Executive Director from 1972 to 2004 alongside his beloved wife of 66 years, Ruth Hagerhjelm Archer. Together, they oversaw the establishment of the Agape Home and the construction of a new facility in 1975. Even after retirement, Albert continued to serve his community as a security guard at Birch Bay Village, Blaine, Washington, for 17 years and volunteered with The Mended Hearts at St. Joseph Medical Center and as a summer camp cook for Camp I-Vy with the Bleeding Disorders Foundation of Washington.

Albert was an active member of Northwest Baptist Church and the Bellingham Rotary Club. He found joy in fishing and woodworking and led efforts to restore and display the last operable Douglas A3D Skywarrior aircraft at NAS Whidbey Island.

He is survived by his wife Ruth of Mesa, Arizona; his children Jon (Linda) Archer of Mesa, Arizona; Janis Arrigoni; and Timothy (Michelle) Archer of Whatcom County; as well as grandchildren: Lindsey (Juan) Escalante, Zachary Archer, Joshua (fiancé Casey Valigursky) Archer, Adriana (Ian) Harris, Emily Arrigoni, and Matthew (Marybelle) East. He was predeceased by his parents Gilmore and Mary Archer and siblings Sherry Guiher and Harvey Archer.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Lighthouse Mission Chapel, 1312 F St., Bellingham, Wash. May his steadfast faith and loving legacy bring comfort to all who knew him.
