Jewell Martin, age 100, departed this life on Friday, February 21, 2025. Jewell's life was a vivid tapestry of love, courage, and service, which she wove meticulously through her numerous contributions to her community and her country.
Born into a time of great change and challenge, Jewell was no stranger to adversity. Her strength shone brightly during World War II, where she worked on B-17 Bombers, demonstrating not only her technical prowess but also her resolute patriotism. This brave woman, who played a role in shaping the world as we know it today, will forever be remembered for her indomitable spirit. After the war, Jewell returned home and channeled her tenacity into a new venture, operating a local grocery store. Through this endeavor, she nurtured her community, providing not only essential services but also a compassionate ear and a warm heart.
Jewell's life was deeply rooted in faith, and she was a devoted member of the West Corbin Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Martin; children, Melinda Morris and Larry Martin; and by her parents, George Dobson and Jemima Douglas Dobson, and siblings.
Jewell is survived by her grandchildren, Chondra Sexton (Greg), Eligha Martin, Robbie Martin, Eric Martin (Fumiko), Kimberly Martin (Jason); great-grandchildren, Gunner Sexton, Lucas Martin, Albin Martin, Ryo Martin, Cole Rabun, Ethan Rabun, Joseph Smith, and Jorja Smith.
Visitation will be from 12 - 2 pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held at 2 pm with Rev. Albert Jones officiating.
Burial will follow in the Bingham Cemetery in Corbin, Kentucky.
