Rachel Meeks Obituary

Rachel Coates Meeks, age 96, of Lexington, Kentucky, and formerly of Corbin, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Baptist Health in Lexington.

Born in Ashland, Kentucky she was the daughter of the late Aaron Coates and Zelia Rice Coates. Rachel was a long-time member of the First Christian Church in Corbin, and a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a former member of the Corbin Ossoli Club, the Corbin Garden Club, and the First Christian Church Circle. Rachel loved a party, people, animals, and reading, and she had a passion for fashion. She had been a visual merchandiser and buyer for Belks in Corbin and later worked at Daniels and the Corbin Library.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack "Fireball" Meeks; son, William Coates Meeks; grandson, William Jack Maxwell; and by her brother, Thomas Coates.

Rachel is survived by her daughter, Shelley Meeks Maxwell (Bill); son, Thomas Lisle Meeks (Cheryl); nephew, Alan Coates; and by her niece Diana Holt.

Visitation will be from 2-3 pm on Monday, September 2, 2024, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held at 3 pm on Monday at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, with Dr. Bob Tibbs officiating.

Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery in Corbin, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rachel's memory to the Alzheimers Association.
